Exploring Technology from the Perspective of a Visually Impaired Individual: An Interview with Przemek Kielar

Do you remember the last time you were on a beach and someone called or texted you? You wanted to check it, but the sun was shining so hard that you couldn’t see anything. You squinted your eyes, covered yourself with something and then finally after a great deal of effort you were able to read it. That is neither the most comfortable nor the most optimal way of using your smartphone. The thing is that a lot of people have to deal with much worse obstacles on an everyday basis when it comes to using technology. To get a better understanding and insight into the lives of people who are visually impaired, we talked to Przemek, a man with vision impairment, and asked him how he’s using the technology.

Key Insights from Poznań Accessibility Meetup II

The series of Poznan Accessibility Meetup is still quite a fresh idea. We organize it because the topic is important to us. We implement accessibility, and we wish to educate others on that matter. That’s why in the middle of September, we have gathered for the second time to talk about the issues with A11y in both online and offline world. We’ve listened to three lectures and some very insightful questions. We prepared a sum up of it all. Enjoy!

Broadening Snowdog's UX Capabilities through the Integration of Eye Tracking Technology

Happiness, determination, sadness, anger, shock — research shows that people are perfectly capable of accurately recognizing these (and many more!) emotions from pictures that have been cropped to only show eyes. The way they can squint, widen, shrink or expand can tell us a lot — after all, as the saying goes, eyes are windows to the soul. But with technology, our eyes can tell us even more. Eye-tracking is by no means new. With a history dating back to 1879, it began with researchers observing naked eyes during reading. Nowadays, this technology has advanced and become accessible even to smaller businesses, who can use it and gain valuable data. At Snowdog, we are always eyeing the next thing to assist us in helping our clients in new and innovative ways. We decided to invest in eye-tracking equipment and analysis software because of its on and offline applications, and it’s potential to further enhance the capabilities of our UX research department. We’d like to devote this space to talking a bit about what eye tracking is, how it can be applied in user experience research and how we are going to use it at Snowdog.
